How did Chinese Medical practitioners diagnose complex health conditions centuries before the advent of lab tests? We use a few different physical assessment tests.

Many of us are trained to check the state of your health by palpation, pulses and using facial, ear, and tongue diagnosis. People always ask me about tongue diagnosis.

By looking at the tongue, we can check your circulation, metabolism, digestion, and the condition of each organ system.

Parts of the tongue

Each part of the tongue reflects a different organ system. Various changes to that area clues us in to different issues, and conditions.

Shape

The shape of the tongue reflects information about some basic building blocks of your health.

Coating

I pay a lot of attention to tongue coats right now. The color, thickness and appearance of the coating can indicate viral infections. The coat also shows a lot of other information as well.

A trained Chinese medical practitioner can differentiate between an older coat indicating a chronic disorder, and a coat that indicates a new infection, or even just a recent dietary change. Not all coating indicates serious issues

Underside

The underside of your tongue reveals the state of your circulation and areas of the body you may feel pain.
